Time Magazine published a list some time ago of the 100 best rock and pop albums of all time.
Fine. But the list consisted entirely of albums in English, thereby excluding a whole world of contemporary music.
It is a little like publishing a list of the greatest classical composers while excluding German, Russian, and Austrian music — leaving out Beethoven, Mozart, Stravinsky, Bach, and many others. You would not take such a list seriously.
The Time list included only American and British artists, with the exception of a few Canadians and Bob Marley. That makes it, in my view, a list with limited value. There are so many extraordinary albums from the rest of the world that could easily be considered among the best ever recorded, and this list includes some of them.
This is my subjective list of mostly non-English-speaking artists — albums filled with fantastic music. I hope you’ll enjoy this Spotify list of 100 World Music albums.
